I suggest you talk to our sales engineers to work out the best solution for your specific environment and needs. If you only have one hour, I personally would not even bother thawing those babies.

Q: How do you manage software updates on Macs with only an hour downtime where you can thaw and update? Would it even be worth trying to get them hooked to the domain? Anti-Virus?Ī: We recommend a least a couple hours set aside for what we call a "Maintenance Period", when you can thaw your machines, push out updates and patches and freeze them again.

One thing to note is that you can convert your Deep Freeze Enterprise licenses to what we call a "kit" license, which combines both Windows and Mac licenses and then just have one count and "slosh" licenses between Macs and PCs as you please. We have developed a GUI overlay that uses ARD to manage Deep Freeze Mac remotely.Ī: Same per OS licensing as what you have with Deep Freeze Enterprise. Remote management of Deep Freeze Mac is done via ARD. Q: What do I need to know? Are they managed in the same console? Does the Mac console have to be installed on a Mac OS?Ī: They are not managed on the same console, the technologies and communication protocols are different. Q: SO the question is, have you worked with Mac's and deepfreeze?Ī: We have tons of customers, if you need a reference in your immediate vicinity, give us a call or email sales (at) and we will hook you up with someone across the street.

All of those questions will be addressed by a dedicated sales engineer.

If it's public access, you might want to just leave it off the domain, that way the user can just click an icon-based username to log you for your interest:) If any of my answers below need further clarification, just give us a call or better yet get in touch with your account manager (you mentioned you are already a customer with Deep Freeze Enterprise licenses). With Deep Freeze you're forced into the whole "Thaw to update" process, but considering we've had nearly 99% drop in malicious software problems, I'd say it's well worth frustration.you reap what you sow. Which part of the licensing are you asking about? We found that once on the domain(So that user's can log in to their individual account) it ate up a HUGE amount of bandwidth, slowing down both the Mac itself and the user's network file storage server. The Macs would be managed as of User Interface via the Workgroup Manager/Server Admin (We have a Mac server designated for that). We have 99% of our users access their files via the network therefore avoiding any need to save a file locally to the hard drive. If the main partition is locked, the only place for a malicious file to go would be your Thawspace (Small piece of the partition that doesn't get frozen) and it can't do much damage from there. Upon a restart, Deep Freeze returns your computer to the state it was in when it was last “frozen.” On most of our computers it mainly affects drive C: (which includes My Documents, Desktop, Downloads, etc…).I've only worked with Deep Freeze on our PCs (About 300 of them) and in my opinion you don't need Anti-Virus on a Mac if you have Deep Freeze.

Not available for personally owned machines of PCC students, faculty, and staff. Pleas note: This is for College-owned machines only.
